How much does a website cost? That’s one of the most common questions asked of a web developer. The answer is: it depends.
Not all websites are the same – a small website for a tradesman may only take several days from start to finish whereas large scale websites like Amazon and Facebook have taken a long time to be created, have been developed over time at a cost of millions of pounds.
It’s likely that if you’re reading this that you don’t want a website on the scale of Amazon. However you’d be surprised at how many people request a ‘website that’s just like eBay/Facebook/Amazon/GroupOn, but with one slight difference‘ and don’t have a budget to match.
Generally speaking, prices for a website from Phil Thompson start at around £3,000-5,000. Of course, there are some times when the solution required may not be as expensive as that but that’s a fair figure based upon this process.
Rates
Phil Thompson charges his services at the following rates:
- £300 per day
- £60 per hour
Phil’s preference is to charge per day as opposed by the hour but where hourly rate are requested there is a minimum charge of two hours for every piece of work. While some jobs may seem like they only take 30 minutes to complete, once a discussion has been made, requirements agreed, the work completed, thoroughly tested, pushed live, and an invoice has been raised that easily takes between 1 and 2 hours if not more.
Phil suggests to all his clients that smaller jobs/tasks are grouped together so they can done at the same time where possible.
Discounted day rates for larger jobs
If a client has a job that is likely to last for a more significant amount of time then a discounted rate will be discussed. Phil won’t for instance charge a client £300 x 120 days for a 6 month project.
- Projects extending over 10 days (e.g. two weeks): £270 per day (or £2,700 per fortnight)
- Projects extending 20 days (e.g. one month) or more: £200 per day (or £4,000 a month)
Payment terms
Proposals, for direct clients, are usually a fixed price. They are created after establishing exactly what the client requires from their website and they can take a few days to write.
All projects require a 50% initial payment upfront and a 50% payment upon completion of the project.
Payments must be made by bank transfer. Please no cheques unless absolutely necessary and definitely no Paypal payments.
Working hours
I work between the hours of 9:30-17:30 Monday-Friday.
As I am a one-man operation I may from time to time not be in the office, being either at meetings. Please be patient and try to bear this in mind when contacting me. I will always try to check my emails during these working hours every few hours, so if something urgent happens I will try to respond as quickly as I can.
