Process

The web design/development process is not necessarily an easy one to explain. A lot of potential clients enquire about web design/development services only to discover that the process is much more involved than they had imagined.

Here are the steps involved

  1. Meet client and discuss requirements: e.g. Why do they need a (new) website? Who are their target market? What is the (rough) budget? What is the business concept?
  2. Provide fixed price proposal and time-scales.
  3. Meet client again to discuss design requirements in detail (this step can be optional)
  4. Produce wireframes (which are the web design equivalent of blueprints) that detail what type of information will be displayed on each page of the website and how users will find their way around the website.
  5. Produce a ‘design’ concept for the client’s approval. Show the client and make revisions to match their requirements.
  6. Flesh out design concept to different sections of the website e.g. the contact details page or a portfolio page.
  7. Convert design into functioning website templates and put into place a Content Management System (CMS).
  8. Take client copy and imagery and insert into the website. This can involve rewriting the copy to make it suitable for the web and resizing images so they fit the design.
  9. Launch new website.
