About Phil Thompson
Hello my name is Phil Thompson, I’m a 25 year old web designer / developer, currently working for Soapy Co and freelancing in my spare time whilst living in Whalley Range, Manchester (UK).
Looking like a 70s catalogue model; In a pub with some awful hair; On a bike ride/wine-tasting tour in Vienna;
I’ve been a professional web designer/developer since graduating from the Manchester Metropolitan University, with a BSc in Computing, in the summer of 2005, but I’ve been creating websites since the days of GeoCities - in web years that almost makes me an old man.
Specialities
I specialise in Front-end web code, HTML, CSS (and some JavaScript). For those don’t speak geek, this means I convert web designs (usually from Photoshop) into fully functioning website templates. I can also design websites and build them using PHP coupled with MySQL. I also know a fair bit about SEO and getting websites noticed.
My professional experience has enabled me to gain a very good understanding of how websites work, from how they attract people to how they convince those same people to purchase/read/subscribe and then make return visits. I have a proven record of improving the fortunes of websites, whether that means increasing profits or increasing their findability in search engines.
Socialise
I am on the following social websites:
Interests
My main passion is music and I’m a regular gig go-er/(il)legal downloader/cd buyer. I’m your archetypal music snob and chances are I’ll dislike everything you hold dear. You can see what I’m listing to on my Last.fm profile.
Examples & Work History
I am available for freelance/contract work. View my services page to see what I can offer.
For those interested in some of the projects I’ve been involved in, I have an online portfolio and for those interested in reading about what I’ve done in my career so far/my skills, I also have a CV. You can also see my Linkedin profile to see more about me work-wise.
This website
This website is called <img /> is Everything as I thought it’d be a clever pun - it clearly isn’t! This blog has been running since May/June 2005 although, I did have a previous (unsuccessful) blog called ‘Double O Negative’ which ran from 2003 to 2004.
This blog currently gets anywhere from 10-250 people a day visiting with that number rising to over 1000 on a very good day (after I’ve written a popular article).
