Tip: Always check your HTML emails

If you don’t check your HTML emails in a variety of different email clients with images turned on and off you risk of running into trouble. Especially if you like to put funny phrases in your alt tags (attributes) of your spacer GIFs like in this recent email newsletter from Schuh.

The developer/designer who created this campaign clearly thought it would be funny to spell out ‘Wanker St’ one letter at a time with the HTML’s spacer GIFs.

In the past, I’ve talked about ensuring your website is mistake free and it’s easy to see how important it is to triple-check everything or your hilarious (read: offensive) internal jokes could be exposed to your customers and cost you a lot of money.

Thanks to Dave at Sluug for this sending me this email.

  • Oh my word, hope the bone idol work experience kid doesn’t loose his job over that. I’m sure someone has reported it and it’ll be the last time Schuh use that web agency!
