Prior to gaining my first job as a junior web developer, I often wondered how much I could expect to earn.
Whilst at university, during 2001-2005, I heard a lot about the average salary for a university graduate being around £18,000 a year (regardless of profession) – whether this was an accurate figure or not, it felt realistic and achievable to me.

Writing a CV (resume) for a web design job isn’t too dissimilar to writing a CV for any other job. So don’t try to be too clever.
As my last function as Web Coordinator for JJB Sports, I was asked (along with a colleague) to find a new web designer. Some of the CVs I received were truly awful so I’ve summarised some of the biggest mistakes people made in the hope less people will make the same errors.

GeekUp is a community of web industry professionals based in the North of England (Manchester, Liverpool & Leeds). It provides a job board and regular get-togethers which helps to get freelancers out of their houses once a month. I think GeekUp is awesome but I think it can be improved and here’s how:

The following 5 eBay selling tips have done good by me over the years whilst selling items on eBay and they’ve often contributed to me generating higher final selling prices on my eBay auctions.
1. Be as descriptive as possible
Ensure you give as much information as possible to potential buyers. Some eBayers will ask you questions if they don’t see the answers they crave but most won’t and that majority won’t bid on your item either. I often copy the sales copy from another seller’s item if I intend to sell a similar item – only if it has achieved the price that I want.

There seems to a minor misconception amongst clients who hire web designers as to what a web designer does and in particular what all the different disciplines in web design/development are.
Your success as web designer depends on your ability to communicate to those people what you will do for their money.
